James' affair scandal spills into motorcycle world
Even as the personal marital problems of custom motorcycle builder Jesse James and Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock plays out in magazine headlines and gossip columns, the two-wheeled world is getting some unfavorable attention as well.
With ‘Bad-Boy Biker’ quickly becoming the most overused label by the popular media, Jesse James remains in the spotlight with more women coming forward, alleging they too had affairs with the celebrity biker while he was married to Sandra Bullock.
Aside from the revelations from In touch Magazine over James’ affair with Tattoo model Michelle McGee, some media outlets are reporting as many as eleven other women have been linked to the owner of West Coast Choppers during his 5 year marriage to Bullock.
As with a similar scandal involving pro-golfer Tiger Woods, the names of women reportedly involved with the infidelities are becoming a media tidal wave. With a sense of Déjà vu, a tattooed stripper, Melissa Smith claims she met the bike-builder after he contacted her on MySpace. Both McGee and Smith claim the affairs started when they visited James at West Coast Choppers, but never made it out of his office for any promised tours of the facilities or rides in custom cars and motorcycles.
Contestant number three is Brigitte Daguerre, a photographer in Los Angeles who has told TMZ.com that she too had sex with the reality TV star while he was married to Bullock. Although the affair was short lived it started in 2008, three years after his marriage began with Bullock, according to reports.
As with the other women, Daguerre has text messages to verify her claims. Totaling 195, the text messages run from friendly to alleged sex-talk.
The connection between the Woods scandal and the world of pain James finds himself in has become more than a familiar situation with the fourth alleged mistress. The unidentified woman, who was also allegedly involved with Tiger Woods claims she had an affair with the bike-builder and is represented by celebrity attorney Gloria Allred.
Gloria Allred issued a statement on her client's behalf saying that her client "a beautiful model and business woman," "had an intimate 3-year relationship" with Jesse James which only ended after the revelations by McGee by In Touch magazine.
Aside from the emotional pain James is obviously enduring, having attorney Gloria Allred involved brings the possibility of monetary damages and following the adage of pouring when it rains, a sexual harassment case is being reportedly being filed against James and West Coast Choppers.
But the scandal is edging its way into the general, everyday motorcycle world. First, questions surrounding some of the tattoos sported by James first alleged mistress, Michelle McGee drew connections to Nazi symbolism. Now this association has also been drawn between the iconic Iron Cross used in the logo of Jesse James West Coast Choppers. While bikers have often faced this criticism, considered a stretch by many, the marital scandal gives the discussion a new lease on life and pushes it back in the public eye.
Although the new wrinkle may leave some in the riding community defensive about their choice of attire and symbols, the scandal has caused a clear divide between those who feel the media should stay out of Jesse James personal life and bikers who felt it was only a matter of time before the marriage to Bullock would end badly.
James has built a strong fan base over the years. Starting with his bike-building specials to the frequent visits to American Troops serving in war zones as well as numerous non-motorcycle related television appearances, James has become arguably the most famous face from the riding community.
So whether a fan of Jesse James or just standing by him out of a ‘biker-loyalty’, those defending the bike-builder will face Middle America, who has always had a love affair with actress Sandra Bullock.
And the lines will become even clearer as this scandal follows in the footsteps of the one before it from Tiger Woods, where a very personal tragedy becomes a punchline in comedic routines of late night talk show hosts.
