Aerosmith's Joe Perry unbroken and unbruised from motorcycle accident
Just how lucky Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry was in the recent motorcycle accident is being told through reports and interviews the banged up biker is giving.
Last Thursday Perry was struck from behind while riding in Middleborough, 43 miles south of Boston. Perry lives in the nearby city of Duxbury. Driving a Chevy Malibu on Route 44, Linda O’Brien rear-ended the rock legend as both vehicles were moving slowly on Route 44.
Although his 2009 Monster 696 Ducati is reportedly ‘smashed up’ from the engine back, the rocker himself appears to have come away relatively unscathed.
Perry may have spent the last weekend nursing the aches with ice-packs, he claims to have no bruises or broken bones, leaving the hospital after the accident without even having an x-ray taken.
The driver of the vehicle, 62 year old Linda O’Brien was driving with her daughter when she reached down for a water bottle and allegedly didn’t realize Perry, riding in front her, had slowed. While O’Brien has been described as a grandmother of six children, she is only three years older than the famous biker she hit.
Putting a blemish on an otherwise clean driving record, O'Brien, who was not injured, was cited for following too closely.
Publicists and agents for both Perry and Aerosmith have been working hard to assure fans the upcoming tour, ‘Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock’ will continue as scheduled. But Perry was quick to joke with Rolling Stone Magazine he had momentary visions of performing the tour from a wheelchair.
The tour officially kicks off Friday, July 23rd at Oakland's Oracle Arena.
"After last summer, we've been looking forward to getting back out there with a vengeance. I can't wait to feel the roar of the American audiences again and give this summer what it needs - a double dose of Aerosmith!" commented Steven Tyler.
As for Perry's take on the tour, "Just like the name of the tour, I am 'Cocked, Locked and Ready to Rock.' It was a close call. My bike is smashed but I am ok from head to toe. I want to thank all of the fans for their emails and support."
“Our old producer Jack Douglas said to me if you survive three motorcycle accidents then you're good — you're gonna survive no matter what," Perry told Rolling Stone Magazine, "I called him over the weekend and said, 'Hey Jack, I think this makes three, so I'm good to go.' "
