Latest movie inspired motorcycle suit makes debut

The event known as Comic-Con could be considered a motorcycle event on steroids for comic book and science fiction fans.

Held in San Diego and celebrating its 40th year, Comic-Con has grown beyond comic books fans meeting the writers and artists that create them. The event draws hundreds of thousands fans of science fiction across all types of media as well as comic books. Companies pay large dollars for extravagant multimedia displays hosted by beautiful women in apparel relating to the exhibition booth.

Any of this sound familiar?

Whether motorcycle enthusiasts are interested in Comic Con or not, they could be wearing some of the products on display. Long awaited by some, the Tron:Legacy motorcycle riding attire from UD Replicas had its official unveiling at the event.

Spread across two different booths, the TRON riding gear joins a list of creations from UD Replicas, all designed to be fully functional leather motorcycle suits and be worn while riding. On show will be the motorcycle suits inspired by X-Men, Iron Man 2 and of course, the Tron suit. The company’s impressive Wolverine (X-Men) and Iron Man suits will be on display at eFX Collectible’s booth while the Tron suit, which reportedly features light-up elements, will be on display at the Disney booth.

If past products are anything to go by, the Tron suit from UD Replicas will be manufactured with the cooperation of those closest to the suit seen in the movie. When working on the suit inspired by X-Men: Wolverine, Marvel provided UD Replicas with access to the Wolverine suit worn on screen in the movie. To create the jacket, gloves and pants, UD Replicas utilized four different types of leather, each X2 Wolverine Motorcycle Suit also incorporates removable CE-approved body armor; gloves with built-in, anti-skid Kevlar in the palm’s leather lining; and an interior, form-molded muscle suit sandwiched into the jacket’s torso section.

The Tron motorcycle suit“No matter who you are, when you put it on and zip it up, you look like a Super Hero,” said David Pea, owner of UD Replicas.

Reportedly, the TRON: Legacy suits on show at the Disney Consumer Products TRON booth featured different technologies to achieve the glowing lit look seen in the upcoming remake of the 80’s classic.

The motorcycle riding suit features reflective tape, but a Tron jacket includes 100 square inches of EL wire make up the glowing accents which will last up to five hours on a full charge. Continuing with authenticity UD Replicas have worked so hard at on previous creations, the materials used in the Tron riding apparel is the same material used by the costume designers for TRON: Legacy.

To give wearers the feeling of just riding from the big screen, a controller on the battery pack will allow the riders to select from several different patterns and lighting effects. More pictures of the suits can be found on the Disney fan site Stitch Kingdom.

But authenticity and the limited edition production comes at a price. The numbers given for the TRON: Legacy suits to range from $800-$1200 depending on which piece of apparel riders take a fancy to.

While a few lucky buyers are riding replicas of the lightcycle featured in the upcoming movie built by Florida-based Parker Brothers Choppers in a recent online auction, attendees of the Comic Con had the opportunity to see the studio’s very own life-size version of the fastest computerized motorcycle ride coming to the big screen this summer.
