Injured motorcyclist thanks rescuers from hospital bed

Brandon WrightIt was a motorcycle story that rode around the world as everyday Americans came to the rescue of a fallen rider.

Bikers and non-bikers alike marveled at the video footage of unflinching heroism from a group of bystanders as they lifted a burning car to free a pinned rider. The incredible moment came after Brandon Wright was hit by a BMW while riding his motorcycle on his way to Utah State University's campus Monday.

Wright was trapped under the vehicle, which caught fire when the motorcycle’s gas line was severed.

In the face of great danger, about a dozen bystanders stepped in to lift the car and pull Wright to safety.

At the time of the rescue, Wright’s parents were quick to thank the brave public that pulled their son from underneath the overturned vehicle.

“Brandon and our entire family would like to express our deep gratitude to all of the people who stopped at the crash scene on Monday to help rescue Brandon,” the statement said “The fact that so many people would risk their own lives to save Brandon is a testament to the spirit of the community, and we will forever be thankful for these angels saving our son.”

Wright suffered fractures in his right leg and pelvis, scrapes and burns on his feet, according to the Associated Press. Despite the fact that he wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Wright didn’t sustain any head injuries.

He does however, always plan on wearing a helmet in the future.

Through visible disbelief, the 21 year old Brandon is thanking those that saved his life from his hospital bed.

“I should’ve died several times. I should’ve died when I hit the car. I should’ve died when I went under the car. I should’ve died when the car burst into flames,” he said at a press conference, “But I didn’t, and that makes life that much more precious.

Wright remains at a Salt Lake Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

“I just wanted to thank all of the heroes that put their lives on the line to save mine,” says Wright. “I'm forever in debt, I can't thank them enough, I just hope they know how much they mean to me."
