Motorcycle events ride for records and charities

It appears officials from the Guinness World Records will be busy travelling around the United States with different motorcycle events looking ride their way into the famous book.

And with the generosity most motorcycle enthusiasts seem to have, every attempt also raises much needed funds for deserving charities.

As early as this weekend organizers of the ‘Rally for the Rugrats’ and ‘Toys for Tots Rally’ are hoping to set the world record for the number of Harley-Davidson motorcycles in a single ride.

The event is scheduled to wrap up the Myrtle Beach event taking place on May 15th at Murrells Inlet. Registration is scheduled to start at 10am with the first motorcycle expected out at 1pm.  Not surprisingly, both the ride as well as the various places to register for the event are located outside the city limits of Myrtle Beach.

Next month Southeastern Michigan’s largest charity motorcycle ride is also looking for a place in record-making history with the Penrickton Center for Blind Children hosting its 10th annual Ride for a Reason on June 6th.

Ride for a Reason is trying to break the Guinness record for largest charity parade of Harley-Davidson motorcycles with the event historically attracting riders from all over Michigan and Ohio.

Starting at Dundee the 100-mile ride ends at Biker Bob’s in Taylor, where riders will have meals provided by Famous Dave’s with entertainment by Karen Newman, Steve Acho and Slight Return.

The current record organizers are trying to break is 2,118, set in 2002 and with more than 3,000 people are expected to participate, everyone is hopeful. But even if the event doesn’t set any new records, it will raise money for Penrickton Center, a residential, day care and consultation evaluation services for blind children ages 1 to 12 with additional disabilities.

Organizers are hoping to raise more than $85,000.
