Motorcycle event honors British military

In true biker fashion, motorcycle enthusiasts across Britain will pay tribute to its country’s forces in Afghanistan this coming weekend.

Taking place over Armed Forces Day and taking place at Chepstow Race Course, Thunder Rally Weekend will raise funds for the Afghan Heroes charity featuring music, military and motorcycle displays as well as a Battle of Britain Fly Past.

The event, officially taking place on June 25 to 27, will welcome riders who only want to come for the day or those that are camping for the weekend with one lucky visitor winning a brand new motorcycle as first prize in a fund raising raffle.

“The bikers showed their affinity with our troops when they staged a spectacular ride through Wootton Bassett earlier this year, which raised over £100,000 for the charity and was a thank you to the people of the town for their loyalty to our soldiers,” Denise Harris, founder of Afghan Heroes said, “The event later this month will be a chance for them to have fun, with some fantastic entertainment and displays.”

Events during the weekend will include a fly-past by the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight featuring historic aircraft from the Second World War; the famous White Helmets motorcycle display team from the Royal Corps of Signals and the Tiger children’s motorcycle display team.

Friday evening entertainment will include the Parachute Regiment Display Team. There will be a funfair throughout the weekend and music from top AC / DC tribute band Hell’s Bells; The Cheap Suits, Matt Shaw’s Meatloaf Experience, Dementia, Lime Shark, Frixton and many more.

Saturday June 26 is Armed Forces Day and on that day boxes of home comforts packed by Afghan Heroes charity volunteers in the UK will be opened by troops in Helmand Province.

“I can’t think of a more worthwhile cause for the support of bikers,” Danny Roach, who is coordinating the event, said, “Groups from throughout the country are travelling to Chepstow and we hope it will be a day where families, local people, military families and bikers all have a great time together.”
