Model and unfulfilled promises used to lure riders into the motorcycle saddle
Women, the open road and unfulfilled promises are all the tactics Harley-Davidson will use in their upcoming marketing campaign to get new riders into the motorcycle saddle.
Of course the Milwaukee motorcycle manufacturer wants that saddle to carry the initials of H.D..
Using the spectacular Marisa Miller and her photo shoot for the upcoming calendar, Harley-Davidson kick-started their new Start Something campaign, which is designed to encourage men to stop dreaming and start riding this summer.
The campaign, which features super model and motorcycle enthusiast Marisa Miller, conveniently kicks into gear this week with the release of Maxim’s Hot 100 issue. The tall, blonde California model and female face for Harley-Davidson made the top ten of the Hot 100 leaving an obvious choice for the motorcycle company to have an in-book ad, exposure at the Maxim Hot 100 party in Los Angeles, on the Maxim Web site, social communities as well as their television program.
But what is any campaign without some sort of contest? To help get men in gear, Harley-Davidson is encouraging men to register for the chance to win one of hundreds of free Rider's Edge New Rider Training Courses, as well as an exclusive package featuring the chance for one lucky winner and four friends to have the following two-wheeled adventure:
- Participate in the Rider's Edge New Rider Training Course together;
- Select the Harley-Davidson motorcycles of their choice;
- Go on the road trip of a lifetime; and most likely on the top of any male’s to-do list,
- Meet super model Marisa Miller

"This is the most ambitious effort the Motor Company has ever undertaken to encourage men to ride," said Dino Bernacchi, Harley-Davidson's director of Advertising and Promotions. "We know men from as young as 18 to 55 and older are dreaming about participating in our sport. With over 30 bikes to choose from and starting at just $6,999, there's no reason to wait until 'down the road.' Today really is the day to 'start something.'"
The motorcycle company that prides itself on delivering the dream of the open road is reminding riding of the unfulfilled promises that may have never been realized. Someday I'll lose weight. Someday I'll visit New Zealand. Someday I'll hit Route 66 on a motorcycle.
Well, accoring to Harley's new campaign, someday is here.
Not sure where to start? Are "significant others" throwing road blocks in front of motorcycling dreams? Don't worry, Harley-Davidson has all the answers to address everyone's concerns in their new Guide to Ride, which men can secure by visiting their local Harley-Davidson dealership or logging onto the campaigns website.
Clutch and Chrome has also completed the article, ‘Honey I want to buy a motorcycle' for such an encounter.
The Start Something campaign extends the unique relationship Harley-Davidson has enjoyed with Marisa Miller, who first linked up with the Motor Company in 2008 to help launch the Harley-Davidson VRSCF V-Rod Muscle motorcycle. Miller's role in the Start Something campaign is to encourage and challenge men to live out their dreams.
Reportedly, the campaign is targeted at men 25 to 55, who are most interested in riding, or those who may not have ridden in over a decade and left the sport.
In addition to the new Start Something spread featuring Marisa and her favorite ride in the Maxim Hot 100 issue, men can also visit Harley-Davidson's website to download exclusive photos of Marisa and her motorcycle, as well as view behind-the-scenes video from the ad shoot.
"Everybody thinks that I was just sprawled across the motorcycle looking pretty," the Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated swimsuit supermodel told Ontheredcarpet.com "I was like, 'You know, I really ride. You know, I really do. It was cool to do something to get dirty and just ride and show people that I can do it."
