Honda's concept choppers and very real motorcycle safety devices
Honda has been in the news this week for a concept motorcycle reminiscent of Star Wars and very real safety devices developed to protect riders.
Riding off into fantasy, a futuristic chopper features three engines with a biofuel version doing most of the work with the two smaller electric engines adding some kick.
While the motorcycle may look ready to leap into warp speed, those four extensions at the back are actually dual exhausts split even further.
Understanding concept motorcycles may be fantasy fodder for bikers and designers, some very real safety devices were shown off by Honda recently at an event in Vienna Austria called the eSafety Challenge.
It was there Honda demonstrated a range of advanced car and motorcycle safety technologies to an audience of over 300 participants, including journalists and senior officials from European safety authorities.
Honda's participation comes after the company became a full member of the organizing association eSafety Aware, demonstrating Honda's commitment to raising awareness and understanding of vehicle safety systems and technologies.
The eSafety Challenge is an annual event that promotes and highlights the life-saving potential of advanced vehicle safety technologies.
During the event, participants had the opportunity to test for themselves the benefits of Honda's Euro NCAP Advanced Award winning Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), as well as technologies such as Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA).
Helping to demonstrate the benefits of motorcycle electronically controlled Combined-ABS, Honda were joined by Moto GP rider Marco Simoncelli.
"I am very pleased to join Honda at the eSafety Challenge today,” Marco said, “Road safety is a critical issue for motorcyclists and advanced e safety technologies, such as Honda's combined-ABS braking system, continue to help to keep riders stay safe and in full control of their vehicles".
