From Flat Track to Sturgis Harley prepares for motorcycle roadtrip
The Milwaukee motorcycle manufacturer is readying for its national road trip with everything from the legendary Sturgis Rally to the performance world of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Following a trend by many in the motorcycle industry, the upcoming rally kicking off on August 6th will see major players in all new locations with Harley-Davidson moving to the heart of the 70th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
The Harley-Davidson Road Tour will run from Friday, August 6 through Saturday, August 14 at its new location at the intersection of 3rd and Lazelle streets in downtown Sturgis. All Harley-Davidson activities in Sturgis are free of charge and include the following:
New 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycles, parts & accessories, MotorClothes along with the latest technology and customization options.

Harley-Davidson demo rides for 2011 motorcycles will be available in Sturgis at Hersrud’s Chevrolet Dealership near Interstate 90 at Exit 30 from Saturday, August 7 to Friday, August 13. Riders can try as many bikes as they want, but must have a valid motorcycle license and adhere to riding gear requirements and safety rules. There will also be a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle display at this location, including a Fit Shop display for motorcycle customization.
In recent years, most Harley-Davidson activities for the Sturgis Rally were located in Rapid City, S.D. at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. While Sturgis, S.D., will be the new center of Harley-Davidson activities, riders and enthusiasts will enjoy the historic attractions and scenic riding in the legendary Black Hills region.
Later in month it’s all about performance for Harley-Davidson as they join the list of exhibitors at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the 2010 MotoGP Red Bull Indianapolis GP August 27-29. Harley-Davidson activities and events at the Speedway will include:
New 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycles display
New technology and customization displays from H-D’s Genuine Parts & Accessories and MotorClothes departments
XR1200 Racing Dyno Experience
In addition to these events free to all race ticket holders, members of the Harley Owners Group will have the opportunity to purchase a special event ticket package
Motorcycle racing fans also won’t want to miss the Indy Mile round of the AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com. This race will be held Saturday evening, August 28, at the nearby Indiana State Fairgrounds and allow enthusiast to experience the thrill of AMA Flat Track racing when stars like Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle factory rider Kenny Coolbeth and others take on the historic Indy Mile circuit.
