Aerosmith's Perry knocked from motorcycle

A famous rock guitarist riding a Ducati Monster motorcycle is struck by an older driver, how could the story not make headlines?

After Aerosmith's Joe Perry was taken to a local hospital after being knocked off his 2009 Ducati Monster Thursday afternoon, representatives for Aerosmith were quick to assure fans the upcoming tour would not be cancelled.

The 59 year old guitar player was hit from behind while riding in Middleborough, 43 miles south of Boston. Perry lives in the nearby city of Duxbury. Driving a Chevy Malibu on Route 44, Linda O’Brien rear-ended the rock legend as both vehicles were moving slowly on Route 44.

At first, the 62 year old grandmother didn’t recognize Perry but later told reporters, "Of all the people to hit, it had to be a rock star.”

The man known for his rock licks escaped the accident with a back injury and some minor scrapes. While Perry himself hasn’t been too vocal about the latest way to meet the band’s fans, publicists and representatives have been quick to keep the would-be crowds coming to the upcoming tour.

"Joe is home and he's fine. All's well and we're all grateful," the band's publicist, Liz Rosenberg, told the Boston Globe.

Aerosmith's manager, Trudy Green, told Boston’s Herald newspaper that the band's summer tour ‘Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock’, which is scheduled to start next week, would not be impacted by Perry's injuries.

Interestingly, with this latest incident, the legendary rock band seems to spend an uncomfortable amount of time making the wrong headlines and motorcycles seem to be the band’s curse. The last notable moment came when Aerosmith’s singer Steven Tyler fell off the stage at Sturgis last year and broke a shoulder. Other injuries among band members and an ongoing ‘icy relationship’ between Perry and Tyler keep the band on a bumpy road.

It’s not surprising then Perry was riding Ducati’s performance motorcycle, a 2009 Monster 696 over a Tyler creation from the singer’s DIRICO motorcycles.

As for the grandmother who’s not much older than the rock star she hit; O'Brien, who was not injured, was cited for following too closely.
