Motorcycles, movies and superheroes
When the movie ‘Tron’ captured the world’s attention in 1982 with its then cutting edge computer graphics, motorcycle enthusiasts weren’t exactly the producer’s target audience.
Aimed at the younger generation who spent their hard-earned allowances and too much would-be study time in mall arcades, motorcycles were mostly the furthest thing from movie-goers minds.
At the time, it could be apparently said.
It appears Disney, the movie studio producing the sequel ‘Tron: Legacy’, are hoping the young generation who made ‘Tron’ a movie legend have grown into adulthood and moved onto motorcycles with many of the marketing stories and products taking at two-wheeled turn.
Florida-based Parker Brothers Choppers built exact replicas of the Lightcycles featured in the upcoming sequel ‘Tron: Legacy’, putting the five limited edition custom motorcycles on the popular auction website eBay.

The wheels of these creations are reportedly custom made 22"x12" dual hubless wheels featuring custom made tires with Parker Brothers offering would-be buyers the option of purchasing replacements as is needed. The frame is 2" cold rolled and boxed hardened steel with carbon fiber/fiberglass bodies. Accent colors are achieved with a neon glow from behind frosted plexiglass and can be turned off or on with the flip of a switch.
The next generation ride can be powered by gasoline or electric engines, it’s reportedly the buyers choice. What is promised, only five will be made with the VIN numbers reflecting the limited production run, but unless you were the winning bidders, pictures are as close as anyone will get. Surprisingly, with the starting price set at $35,000 the bidding has already closed on eBay.
However, for those riders that want to relive the moments of the movie out on the street, the inventive motorcycle apparel company, UD Replicas may have the answer.
Known for their past creations inspired by the Batman, Dark Knight, X-Men and Iron Man movies the company is also making a Tron Legacy motorcycle suit under license.
Later this month UD Replicas will have three of their latest creations on display at the San Diego Comic Con, a popular event for studios to promote upcoming movies with previews as well as appearances by actors appearing in the hopeful hit films.
On show will be the motorcycle suits inspired by X-Men, Iron Man 2 and of course, the Tron suit. The company’s impressive Wolverine (X-Men) and Iron Man suits will be on display at eFX Collectible’s booth while the Tron suit, which reportedly features light-up elements, will be on display at the Disney booth.
If past products are anything to go by, the Tron suit from UD Replicas will be manufactured with the cooperation of those closest to the suit seen in the movie. When working on the suit inspired by X-Men: Wolverine, Marvel provided UD Replicas with access to the Wolverine suit worn on screen in the movie. To create the jacket, gloves and pants, UD Replicas utilized four different types of leather, each X2 Wolverine Motorcycle Suit also incorporates removable CE-approved body armor; gloves with built-in, anti-skid Kevlar in the palm’s leather lining; and an interior, form-molded muscle suit sandwiched into the jacket’s torso section.
“No matter who you are, when you put it on and zip it up, you look like a Super Hero,” said David Pea, owner of UD Replicas.
But if riders think this is their only chance to play a superhero on two-wheels, UD Replicas more heroes to choose from.

It appears the Dark Knight (DC Comics) is still available on their website and under its multi-title license with Marvel, UD Replicas will show its leather replica of Tony Stark’s Mark V Suitcase Suit seen in Marvel’s summer blockbuster, Iron Man 2 at the San Deigo Comic Con.
“We’re putting our creative senses to work like we’ve never done before,” Pea said at the beginning of the creative process for the Iron Man motorcycle suit. “We’re going to mold and shape the leather to replicate the beautiful bevels and hard angles of the Mark V suit. We’re making the leather look like metal, and doing things we never thought would be possible.”
The movie itself, Tron: Legacy hits theaters in Decmeber 2010. Some motorcycle action can be seen in the trailer below.
