The Mammoth Book of Bikers
(Paperback)
Edited by Arthur Veno
There
are a lot of books written about motorcycles and the passion
they stir. But most are historical, essentially documenting
a specific subject while others are about riding techniques or resources for
planning and taking road-trips.
There is
absolutely nothing wrong with covering these topics and by
the number of titles an obvious need, but it leaves the casual
reader with a limited library of books to be read simply
because they're about motorcycles.
Small enough to
take to work or slip into carry-on luggage
The Mammoth Book of Bikers
is a paperback filled with over forty insights,
essays and interviews into the world of motorcycle clubs or
gangs, which ever title suits your temperament.
However, it would
do the book a disservice to give it such an
abbreviated label. The stories and essays vary in length and
cover the passion motorcycles stir, life in the saddle as
well as among a group of bikers, whether they're considered
a club or not.
Other subject
matter covered is the event at Hollister, the birthplace of
the 'one-percenters' using interviews with locals who
remember the incident and even a look Asia's version of
crotch-rocket motorcycle gangs.
Edited by Dr.
Arthur Veno, author of 'The Brotherhoods: Inside the Outlaw
Motorcycle Club', the book includes contributions from
Hunter S. Thompson, Edward Winterhalder, Sonny Barger and Dr
Veno himself.
Its a thick
paperback with the small typeface squeezing a lot of reading
between it's covers consequently giving the book a long 'bed
nightstand' life. Certainly a great book to have in the
collection offering an interesting insight into a slice of
the motorcycle world.
