"The World's Fastest Indian" isn't the fastest pace movie
you'll ever watch, nor will you see the most motorcycles
on the screen at one time.
What you will witness is the
insane love and meticulous attention a true motorcycle
enthusiast will give to his bike.
Anthony Hopkins plays Burt
Munro, a codger in his 60s who lives in Invercargill, New
Zealand who is considered by friends and neighbors as an
old coot who is always tinkering with his 1920 Indian
motorcycle.
Like Burt, who has plodded along over the years perfecting
the art of making customized pistons the movie does the
same as he makes his way to the Bonneville Salt Flats in
Utah in 1967. He adds an array of people to his life just
as the everyday items have been added to his Indian over
the years. Similarly Burt manages to take something as big
as world records on the legendary salt flats and bring it
back to a human perspective and triumph. Its not just the
record he wins, but also the hearts of the people among
all the red-tape, bureaucracy and corporate sponsorships
that have seemed to taken over the Bonneville Salt Flats.
If you're looking for a
movie that has thrills, spills and motorcycles come at you
left and right, this may not be the movie. However, if
it's a movie about the passion two-wheels can stir, the
love for riding that can only be felt as well as an
inspiring insight into the best of humanity, it should be
top of your rental or purchase list.
