The clouds cleared and records were set as the Isle of Man TT came to life.

Starting off the legendary racing series rider John McGuinness won his 15th TT when he took victory in a record-breaking Dainese Superbike race.

In a performance that stunned many McGuinness also claimed the outright lap record en route.

Although the day was sunny and the track was dry, the historic road race included a strong breeze for racers to take into account. But there was no one to challenge John McGuinness as the HM Plant Honda rider dominated all six laps to take the win, set a new outright lap record and set a new race record.

The Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) Race is a motorcycle racing event held on the Isle of Man since 1907. Its run in a time-trial format on public roads closed for racing with the first race was held on Tuesday 28 May 1907 and was called the International Auto-Cycle Tourist Trophy.

The event was organized by the Auto-Cycle Club over 10 laps of the St. John's Short Course of 15 miles 1,470 yards for road-legal touring motor-cycles with exhaust silencers, saddles, pedals and mud-guards.

Between the crowds expectations of McGuiness and Honda celebrating 50 years of racing, the victorious rider did come into the day with some anxiety. By the end however, McGuinnes won and Honda took all three spots on the podium.

"Conditions were a bit dusty to begin with and there wasn't much grip out there to begin with but I had a good go from the start and was able to make a bit of a break," McGuinness said.

It was fifty years ago Honda made its racing debut at the legendary Isle of Man TT and the company is looking to celebrate in many ways, even hoping to add to its tally of racing wins.

The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer made its racing debut at the TT in 1959, and was hoping to add to its massive tally of wins with the impressive line up of 14-times winner John McGuinness, the outright lap record holder, Steve Plater, already a TT winner, and sidecar aces Nick Crowe and Mark Cox.

Despite the pressure, McGuinness took the HM Plant Honda Superbike to victory – his 15th TT win – a new outright lap record, 130.442mph, and a new race record.

His only real challenger was teammate Steve Plater, but McGuinness controlled the pace to take a comfortable win. Plater finished second, with Guy Martin third.

"I'm proud to have won my 15th TT and to have increased my outright lap record so thanks to everyone for their support, I hope all the fans out there enjoyed it today," McGuinness said.

Not only did Dainese ambassador Valentino Rossi award the winners on the podium, the MotoGP champion later completed a lap of his own.
