Riders could be forgiven for bringing their helmets
into the cinema over the next month and its not
necessarily because they are worried about theft.
While this month's official
moniker is Motorcycle Safety Month a quick look at
the big screen and it could easily be
considered 'Motorcycle Movie month' as well.
With movie-goers still in awe at the extended action
sequence in 'Wolverine'
featuring what the script calls a 1948
Harley-Davidson Panhead, the two-wheeled star is
going from an unnamed year in the past to a future era of
rebellious starship captains and space exploration.
Hitting
the big screens on Thursday comes the much
anticipated re-invention of the classic sixties
science-fiction show, ''Star Trek'.
Why is this important to bikers? The leading
character is painted as one of our own.
In the upcoming revision of the science fiction
classic, the leading man is seen speeding across the
desert in an early scene in 'Star Trek' being released
nationwide on May 8th. Riding what appears to be a
future version of a sportsbike, its
certainly no V-Twin powering a scene reminiscent of
Tom Cruise riding alongside a landing F-14 in Top
Gun. With both characters riding a motorcycle into their military destiny,
the two-wheeled prop is used to paint an
unconventional hero with a rebellious way of doing
things.
Playing the most famous fictional captain in history
actor Chris Pine had concerns about taking on the
role of James T. Kirk, "As I kind of looked at it, I found that I was scared more by the prospect of bringing Kirk to life again, because he’d already been done, and done really well.”

Using a bike to set the tone of the new Kirk's
character isn't just grabbing the attention of
motorcycle enthusiasts, traditional news
organizations as well as those such as
MTV are all noting
the famous Starfleet captain's choice of
transportation.
Bikers have more blockbusters to get their two-wheel
fix from this summer with the latest in the cyborg science
fiction series coming out later this month with 'Terminator Salvation'
featuring two-wheeled terminators, part-motorcycle,
part-cyborg killing machines premieres nationwide on
May 21st.
