Surrounding itself with classic beauty from
timeless riding machines to luxurious hotel grounds,
a notable motorcycle event has been postponed due to
the economy.
Located
on the rocky northern California cliff only,
forty-five minutes from San Francisco, the Ritz
Carlton Hotel (pictured right) down in Half Moon Bay
is the location for the
Legend of the Motorcycle,
an annual concours d'elegance. Featuring a century
of motorcycles and set in a 'first class'
atmosphere, the event has been postponed because of
"the effect the world economy has had on many
sponsors," the concours's organizers said in a
statement.
However, they expect the exhibition to resume in
2010.
The Legend of the Motorcycle, which bills itself as
an annual luxury charity event isn't the only
casualty of the biker calendar, the legendary
Hollister Rally was cancelled due to costs and what
was considered the largest multi-brand event, the
Honda Hoot has been suspended as well.
A variety of reasons can cause organizers to cancel
motorcycle events. Hollister officials decided the
cost of hosting the event was too high, Honda has
felt the economic impact of both falling car and
bike sales internationally and the Legend of the
Motorcycle faced challenges to its sponsors.
Officials from Daytona Beach, the Florida City that
hosts one of the larger bike weeks and seen as the
start of the motorcycle event calendar, noted
high attendance numbers but lower revenues. Its not
known if the lack of spending came from bikers
feeling the economy or the unexpected cold front
that swept through the event which limited riders in
the colder evening hours.
