Florida flurry of motorcycle tests
The Staff of Clutch and Chrome
June 30th 2008

Across Florida would-be riders crowded into state testing facilities to take their motorcycle license test, trying to beat the new standards.

Starting Tuesday, anyone wanting a motorcycle endorsement must take a safety class which can cost several hundred dollars. If the class is passed, a certificate is issued and the state automatically will issue the endorsement.

DMV offices that normally conduct 10 or 15 tests a day are seeing as many as 75 candidates in that same time trying to get their endorsement. Most fail for simple mistakes or dropping their motorcycle, adding weight to the State's new law of requiring new riders to complete a safety course.

Proponents of the bill point to the many skills and useful knowledge taught by trained instructors. Most safety classes even supply the motorcycle needed to complete the course.

A list of recognized safety courses can be found on the Florida DMV's website.
