The first of
two motorcycle rallies in Myrtle Beach during the month of
May wrapped up with what's being considered as a successful
event, if not with lower
attendance numbers.
The last
official day of the Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers
Association Myrtle Beach rally can report some final numbers, such
as three fatalities over the event, the same as last year.
Police
officials reported 2.362 citations issued, an
increase of 1,460 over the 2007 event, with most
issued for speeding.
Merchants
and vendors faced what many felt was a slower event, but
were pleased with the overall results, experiencing an
increase in sales in the last few days. The popular reasons
for fewer bikes given by officials as well as vendors was
the high price of gasoline as well as the challenging
economy.
The second motorcycle event in Myrtle Beach is set for the 22nd.
The annual Urban Beach Fest, formerly known as Black Bike Week, is one of the largest Black bike events in the nation. This year’s event is scheduled to take place on May 22-25 with an expected attendance of more than 350,000 participants. Hundreds of thousands of African American motorcyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts will make their way to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina during Memorial Day Weekend to participate in the event.
