Considering its
the hometown of Harley-Davidson, its not surprising to think
there could be more than one annual motorcycle rally in Milwaukee.
Local convention and visitors
bureau 'Visit Milwaukee' announced Wednesday that plans are
in the works to create an annual motorcycle rally in
Milwaukee in an effort attract hundreds of riders to the
city every year.
However,
an annual rally has been celebrated since 2002 with the
Milwaukee Harley rally
claiming to be 'the largest of the motorcycle rallies in Wisconsin'.
In 2007 the event was free, drawing an estimated attendance of
approximately 50,000 people.
It's
scheduled for August 27th this year to take advantage of the
local 105th celebrations.
'Visit
Milwaukee' officials have
brought onboard the event planner behind
Harley's 100th anniversary celebration in 2003, Ed Hanrahan and not only
are organizers hoping to capitalize on the fact that the
famous motorcycle manufacturer makes Milwaukee its home, but
they are also looking at the upcoming 105th anniversary this
year as an opportunity to get the word out to riders.
Officials
want to have their first Milwaukee motorcycle rally by early
as 2009. |
