The list of
manufacturers looking to India as its next international
market reads like a who's who of motorcycles.
Ducati is
the latest to throw their helmet into the sales ring with
the launch of five superbikes being released this week.
Although India's market is dominated by smaller cc models,
manufacturers feel the general use of motorcycles as a form
of transportation and the average individuals amount of
disposable income increasing makes the country perfect for
sales expansion.
As with
Harley-Davidson, Ducati's motorcycles will be imported and
consequently face a heavy import duty of 60%. The Italian
motorcycles will be initially sold through a sole
distributor in Mumbai.
India's
7.2-million-strong motorcycle market, which is also the
world's second-largest two-wheeler market has attracted,
Harley Davidson, Triumph, Honda and Kawasaki. Suzuki is
planning to launch it's Hayabusa 1300 cc bike and Honda will
sell it's CBR 1000 RR. |
