South Carolina's Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

With May being
considered Motorcycle Safety Awareness month across the
country, states and organizations are announcing local
initiatives.
The
motorcycle advocacy group, ABATE of South Carolina is
teaming up with the South Carolina State Senate, House of
Representatives, and the Governors Office to celebrate South
Carolina's 'Motorcycle Awareness Month'.
To celebrate
and to shine light on the cause, a special day of support
and enlightenment has been planned for May 4th, 2008,
culminating on the steps of the Statehouse.
Motorcyclists and associations from around the State,
including ABATE, Christian Riders, Military Veterans
Motorcycle Club, HOG chapters, SC Patriot Guard Riders,
Goldwing Club, Honda Riders, Star Riders, and many others
will convene at 11:00am in front of Wentworth Printing in
West Columbia (12th St. and Meeting St.) and parade their
bikes with Police escorts to the Statehouse. On the
Statehouse steps there will be a presentation ceremony which
will include the following:
- Tribute
to legislative supporters, State, and Country

Presentation by the Patriot Guard Riders

Discussion of ABATE of South Carolina's current
legislative position and goals

Presentation to Alive at 25 defensive driving program
chairmen of ABATE of South Carolina's support and
partnership

Presentation of the Proclamation from the Governor's
office for May as "Motorcycle Awareness Month"

Presentation to Governor Sanford a special gift from the
Motorcyclists of South Carolina, naming him as
"Legislative Freedom Fighter of the Year"

Unveiling of the "Riders Education and Awareness
Posters"
-
Speeches from U.S. Representative Joe Wilson, State
Senator Jake Knotts, and State Representatives Nikki
Haley, Mac Toole
- Tribute
and dedication to our lost and fighting soldiers
protecting the Country's freedom
