Indian Motorcycles and Myspace

The social networking site, Myspace has been used to promote
artists, bands, television shows and even politicians, so
why not a motorcycle?
The legendary Indian
motorcycle brand is expected back with it's first model on
the roads by fall 2008 and although they may have their
factory in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, the company has also taken up
residence on
Myspace with 271 'friends' at the time of
writing.
In typical Myspace fashion,
friends have left messages but the theme of Indian
Motorcycle's friends includes photographs of famed
record breaker Burt Munro as well as pictures of classic
past Indian bikes.
On the production front, Indian Motorcycles are
encouraging would be customers to place their orders now for
the 2009 Indian Chief with a
deposit of $1000. Citing an
expected high demand and promising an exclusive invitation
to the company's launch party, the North Carolina motorcycle
manufacturer has high hopes for the comeback of the
legendary brand.
According to the company's
website, the inaugural model will have a wide range of factory-designed-and-fitted personalization options including seats and saddlebags, wheels and fenders, classic Crimson and 21st century hand-painted color schemes.
But what will the
motorcycle itself look like? There is a grainy video on it's
myspace page, but interested riders should be aware 'Though the
final look and styling of the production Chief could change
somewhat based on further testing,' according to Indian motorcycle's latest
newsletter. It goes on to say, 'the basic package is neither
a slavish throwback to vintage Indians nor a surrender to today’s
transitory trends in industrial design'. |
